I am Dr Shruti, holding a PhD in Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies from the University of Delhi, India. As a writer of short stories and articles, I am deeply passionate about exploring narratives that resonate with human experiences. With a genuine appreciation for literature, cinema, and food, my work reflects a blend of academic rigor, creative expression, and cultural curiosity. Through this platform, I aim to share my journey as a researcher, writer, and educator, while celebrating the stories, ideas, and flavours that inspire me.
I was born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and raised in Delhi, where I spent my entire childhood and completed my schooling from Kindergarten to 12th grade at Greenway Modern School. I hold a BA in English Honours from Vivekananda College, University of Delhi (2012–2015), and an MA in Literary Arts: Creative Writing from Ambedkar University, Delhi (2015–2017). I recently completed my PhD (2019–2025) from the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, University of Delhi. Additionally, I have earned a diploma in Intellectual Property Rights from the Indian Law Institute and a Postgraduate
Certificate in Knowing India: Academic Social Responsibility and the Humanities from the Centre for Translation of Indian Literatures (CENTIL), Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University, in collaboration with the University of East Anglia.
My research delves into the interplay of literature, culture, and marginalized voices, with a focus on gender, sexuality, and the socio-political dimensions of literary narratives. I am particularly drawn to Indian media’s evolving cultural trends and the role of multimedia in amplifying diverse perspectives and fostering shared understanding. I am also interested in examining films and advertisements as cultural texts, exploring their influence on societal values and norms. My ongoing research integrates audience and reader response theories to uncover how diverse groups engage with and interpret cultural products.
My creative interests lie in capturing the beauty of life’s mundane, everyday moments, and I express these narratives in both Hindi and English. Alongside personal projects, I have collaborated with individuals and organizations to bring their stories to life. In addition to writing fiction and nonfiction, I professionally offer my expertise as a reviewer, translator, and editor.
I have worked as an educator in different capacities over a decade. In informal settings, I offered tuitions to Humanities students. I have collaborated with different organizations such as, Tara Foundation in Bihar and India Vision Foundation in Haryana, to teach and conduct workshops for underprivileged and marginalised children. I also conducted writing workshops with students of Vivekananda College, University of Delhi. Later, I taught Creative Writing to sixth semester BA LLB and BBA LLB students of Symbiosis Law School, Noida.
I haven’t missed a single class of yours only because your lectures were a real treat for us…you really inspired me in many ways which I can’t put in words.
